Kari Wiens, founder of Koovo

About

Hi, I'm Kari.

I started Koovo to bring what works at Capital Trophy to other small businesses.

Where it started

In 2018 I bought Capital Trophy, an awards and engraving business in Salem, Oregon that has been open since 1993. Like most owners, I learned every part of it: production, sales, the people and the books.

The part owners run out of time for

Most small businesses start with the work itself. The structure behind it gets built piece by piece, as the business grows and needs it. Some owners are good at that part; most are far better at what they actually sell, and none of us have the time.

I know because I've lived it. It took me seven years to get Capital Trophy's systems where they are now, not for lack of know-how but for lack of time. I started building them on Odoo in 2023, and we went live at the start of 2025.

What Koovo is

What every owner wants is a second version of themselves to take care of the back end. That's what Koovo is. I get to know the owners, the business and the people who work there, find what's working and what isn't, and build the systems around the biggest pain points. Usually that means Odoo and some organizing of the tools around it, and often the bookkeeping too, so the numbers stay current.

Why it matters

Many of the reasons a small business struggles are outside the owner's control. This one isn't. Getting the organization, documentation and systems in place gives the business a platform to grow from, takes that reason off the table, and gives the owner real peace of mind.
